Dutch Treat

NE Wolfpac and Amsterdam Diamonds, 7/2/13

The 17U New England Wolfpac International Team has been touring The Netherlands since 6/28/13, visiting the cities and sites while playing against elite Dutch baseball academy teams. What a great experience to be ambassadors of American baseball! The players are staying with host families of the Corendon Kinheim professional baseball club and using the Pim Mulier Stadium in Haarlem as their base of operations.

Most Americans do not think of baseball in conjunction with Holland, but it has been a professional sport in the country since 1922. The Netherlands National Baseball Team is consistently ranked in the top ten of the IBAF World Rankings and has won the European Baseball Championship twenty times. Although baseball is a minority sport within the Netherlands, it is the main sport of the Dutch overseas territories in the Caribbean (the former Netherland Antilles).

The NE Wolfpac has discovered that the Dutch play the game well: Game 1 vs. the Bussum Scimitars on 7/1/13 was a 4-2 loss, and Game 2 vs. the Amsterdam Diamonds on 7/2/13 was another 8-10 loss. Better luck tomorrow!
