The Angels won their second game tonight 7-5 against Acton-Boxboro Blue. Great game and the boys all deserve congrats for playing well as a team with some Moxie!
The game started off with Matt L. pitching 2 innings of no-hit ball while the Angels went to work offensively and scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings. Helping them along was Acton pitching which strangely seemed to favor the Eephus pitch over more traditional delivery. Very interesting to observe the umpire calling strikes as the ball falls through the zone from above. Perhaps badminton racquets should be added to game bags for future reference. The result was an astonishing 9 walks in the first 2 innings to which the Angels added insult to injury with key RBI hits including singles by Andrew W., Mikey P. and a triple by Matt L. Special congrats to Devin F. who showed good plate discipline, both drawing a walk and scoring a run in the 1st inning.
The next 2 innings displayed great Angels fielding defense with Mikey P. and Derek M. on the mound, each collecting 1 strikeout, while textbook put-outs from shortstop to second and first base held Acton to only 1 run. Matt L. also did his best Coco Crisp impression while wearing #10 in center field, making a flying over-the-shoulder catch while running for the fence to rob Acton of it’s best chance to put more runs on the board. Acton’s pitching improved in mid-game, but both Robert C. and Will B. hit singles to show that the Angels line-up is a threat all across the batting order. Robert also continues to earn the nickname “squirrel” with speed on the basepaths not seen since the days of Ricky Henderson. The Angels held onto their lead in the final innings with Will B. and Joey D. on the mound, collecting 1 and 2 strikeouts respectively while also relying on solid catching and infield defense to hold onto the lead in difficult situations when the bases were loaded.
A great effort by all the boys who are clearly enjoying themselves while always learning “the greatest game.”
