Red Wings Rolled Mudcats 7-1 in Rained-out Game

After a wash-out last Tuesday, the Red Wings continued their winning record on Thursday night only to have the game rained out in the top of the 4th. There were 2 outs remaining in regulation play for the game to count in the standings, so the Mudcats and Red Wings will have the chance to play a make-up game before the playoffs. Even so, the Red Wings played an outstanding game that deserves recognition.

The pitching rotation included Connor who struck out 4 in the first 2 innings, followed by Christian who retired the side with 3 strikeouts in the 3rd inning. Once again, the battery was anchored by Matt behind the plate for the first 3 innings. The Mudcats scored once in the 2nd inning and overall had just 4 hits in 4 innings of play. After a slow start, the Red Wings’ bats started heating up in the 2nd inning with singles by Nick and Will followed by a 2 RBI single from Matt which put the Red Birds on the board and into the lead. In the 3rd inning nearly the entire Red Wings line-up came to the plate and opened up the game. Connor started the rout with a screaming RBI double to center field followed by RBI singles from Jon, Nick and Matt. RBI leaders for the game were Matt (3) and Nick (2).

Stay tuned for Saturday’s night game against Groton…
