Los Angeles Angels rookie starting pitcher Nick Adenhart has died following a hit-and-run accident in Fullerton, California. Three people were killed in the crash and another person was critically injured.

The three-vehicle collision was caused by a motorist operating a mini-van who ran a red light and then fled the scene. They were later captured and charged with felony hit-and-run. I’m sure additional charges of vehicular manslaughter will soon follow.

Nick Adenhart was just 22 years old and had started Wednesday’s night game against the Oakland A’s, allowing just seven hits and no runs in six innings of work. Previously expecting to begin the season at Triple-A, Adenhart had his opportunity to start in the Big Show this season due to a strong Spring Training season and injuries on the roster.

This is a terrible and tragic loss for Nick’s family, Angels fans and all who love baseball.

  1. Just as I expected, the 22 year-old suspect/driver responsible for Nick’s death was both intoxicated and driving on a suspended license because of a previous drunk-driving conviction. Booked on 3 counts of murder, 3 counts of vehiclular manslaughter, felony hit-run and DUI. No bail set.
